Nature

 Hiking & Mountain Climbing

If it is one thing Kito really has in abundance it is: Nature. And with great nature, great hiking opportunities are usually not far behind. In Kito and Naka town, you can find trails enjoyable both for the experienced mountain climber and visitors just wanting an easy taste of ancient nature without the excessive exercise.

The Azegano Trail

Azegano is a hiking trail for all ages. With scenic spots along the river, pristine nature, and moss-covered shrines that look like something out of Ghibli movie.

The Azegano Trail is a favorite among the Next Chapter crew. An excellent location for a picnic or a quick dip in the river. A short 15 minute hike, will take you to the trail's various sheltered attractions. Mysterious forest shrine: Check. Azure river swimming: Check. Ghibli-like magical nature: Check.
If all this sounds interesting to you, but you are not a big fan of 2 hour sweaty hikes, The Azegano Trail is the hike for you!

 Waterfalls

The heavy rainfall the region gets throughout its monsoon season has provided Kito and the Naka district with some excellent waterfalls.

Some are easy access, some require an adventure. Some are wide and brutal, others long and delicate. Whatever your waterfall preference is (the Next Chapter team has many), this ancient mountain region is sure to have something you'll enjoy.

Kurotabi Waterfall

A slender waterfall, with an impressive winter coat making it a great destination for all seasons.

An hour's hike into the Kito mountains, and you will find the amazing Kurotabi waterfall. An excellent destination in all sessions, but if a cold winter's day won’t keep you inside we highly recommend catching this waterfall's sparkling winter dress covered in icy jewels.

Amagiri Waterfall

A beautiful wide waterfall an hour into the Kito mountains past Camp Park Kito.

While this one is slightly tricky to reach, we still highly recommend paying it a visit. A very nice wide waterfall deep in the mountains.  From the Next Chapter it takes roughly an hour in a vehicle that can handle the bumpy mountain roads.

On the way there you will also pass Camp Park Kito, a highly recommended place for a rest before continuing your adventure into the mountains.
